Program Notes:
Violin Sonata in E minor explores traditional form through a fusion-jazz harmonic idiom. The title of each movement is meant to evoke reverberations of the mind without a specific programmatic element. "Moonlife" journeys through a series of sentimental grooves, finally settling on a perpetual drive reminiscent of old-time fiddle licks, of which the composer is quite familiar. The second movement is a remote observation of a lover's emotions, contrasting passionate fluidity with spacious etherealness. Rays and beams permeate the final movement, which is full of square harmonies and syncopated rhythms.
