Homecoming was commissioned by the Arkansas Symphony Youth Orchestra and premiered on April 21, 2023 by Charlotte Crosmer, Jeremy Crosmer, Gabriel Bruce, and the ASYO. The double concerto tells a journey of growth and transformation. Jeremy and his sister Charlotte are both alumni of the ASYO. They both left Arkansas for its aptly named sibling state, Michigan, for graduate school in Ann Arbor. While there, they found a unique voice in the blending of new musical experiences with old. They brought with them the old-time fiddle and bluegrass styles of Arkansas while also developing their skills as classical musicians, and dabbling in jazz and blues. This work represents a fusion of all of these styles and the exhilaration of bringing something new back to one's home, including a section that the violinist can play on mandolin. Returning home after a musical metamorphosis is a thrilling adventure, and yet we are reminded that our home has also changed while we are away.
